Makes: A way to find and tag non-members whose behavior suggests they’re likely to join

Recipe: Identify Potential Members
Want to grow your membership base but unsure where to start? Use the data you already have in Spektrix to identify high-potential members. This recipe helps you analyze current member behavior, find similar patterns in other customers, and build an autotag so you can follow up with personalized, compelling invitations to join.

What you need

  • A global segment of current members (or local if needed)
  • Customer Segment Stats report (request from Support if not yet available)
  • Key behavior indicators like average spend, visit frequency, or donation amounts
  • An autotag to identify potential members
ďťż

Time required

Prep time: 15 minutes Cooking time: 20 minutes
ďťż

What will this help me achieve?

  • Understand who your current members are and how they behave
  • Find others in your database who look similar and might be open to joining
  • Build a more targeted and effective membership recruitment campaign
ďťż

Concepts we’ll be using

  • Global segments help identify known member records
  • Customer Segment Stats give average behaviors like spend and visits
  • Autotags allow dynamic tagging of customers meeting custom criteria
  • Dynamic content and Dotdigital programs can personalize outreach

Prep

Understand Your Current Members

  • Use a global or local segment of your current members in a new customer list.
ďťż
  • From the “Choose an Action” dropdown, select Run through report.
ďťż
  • Run the Customer Segment Stats report (request it if you don’t already have access).
Decision point: Choose a transaction date range that reflects the behavior you want to model—recent activity (e.g., 12 months) or longer-term patterns.

Review the Report Results

Check metrics such as:
  • Average spend
  • Average donation
  • Visit frequency
  • Total income
Decision point: Choose which of these indicators best reflect member loyalty and build your potential member profile around them.

Create an Autotag

Head to your Dotdigital tag group and create a new autotag.
  • Define the criteria based on the behavior you've identified (e.g., “spent ÂŁ100+ and visited 2+ times last year”).
  • Add a condition to exclude current members using AND NOT current members.
  • Save your autotag.
You've now created a dynamic, behavior-based segment of high-potential members your team can easily target.

Try This Twist

Take your list of potential members further by:
  • Creating a customer group to flag them in the Sales Interface
  • Adding notes so Box Office teams can start warm conversations
  • Building a customer list for targeted membership email campaigns
  • Using dynamic content to tailor benefits based on past behavior
  • Inviting them to special events as a soft introduction to membership
  • Creating a Dotdigital program for a member recruitment journey
