Respecting how and when customers want to be contacted, whether that is by email, phone, or post, helps build trust, foster loyalty, and ensure compliance with data protection regulations. Clear and accurate preferences also improve open rates, reduce spam issues, and increase overall engagement.


What you need

  • Access to Spektrix Settings
  • Contact Preferences configured and linked to Dotdigital
  • Customer Lists or Global Segments set up for targeting

Prep

Review your current Contact Preferences and ask:
  • Is the communication method clear?
  • Are types of content (e.g. newsletters, offers, event info) clearly stated?
  • Is the frequency or volume of communication implied or explained?
Make sure the language feels human and sets accurate expectations.


Activate

  1. In Spektrix Settings, review and edit your Contact Preferences. Archive old ones if no longer used.
  1. Group preferences clearly by communication type and channel.
  1. Link your email preferences to Dotdigital to ensure unsubscribes and resubscribes sync correctly.
  1. Capture preferences during checkout and through your website sign-up form.
  1. Set up Global Segments for each preference so you can easily filter lists and automate communications.

Use these preferences to segment your database. Pair them with customer behavior data, such as recent attendance or booking history, to craft more targeted and respectful messages.
